St. John’s secured a verbal commitment from Sidney Wilson, a 6-foot-7 wing player from the Bronx. It’s the latest good news for head coach Chris Mullin as he continues to do his best in keeping top prospects home.
A year ago Mullin and his staff landed Brooklyn’s Shamorie Ponds. The 6-foot-1 guard went on to average 17.4 points per game this past season as a freshman. Ponds, along with Wilson, could be a 1-2 punch for a team on it’s way back to relevance in the New York City area.

Wilson played his high school ball at St. Raymond’s before joining prep power Brewster Academy.
Wilson will come in with expectations to contribute immediately for St. John’s. According to reports, he has the ability to stretch the floor with his shot.

St. John’s getting a young talent like Wilson to commit to the program, much like Ponds a year ago, benefits them on and off the court.
Wilson picked St. John’s over notable programs Texas and UConn, that’s a clear indication Mullin has the Red Storm on the right track – specifically when it comes to restoring the team’s credibility with potential recruits.
Next season looks promising for St. John’s. Wilson joins a team with returning guards Ponds, Marcus LoVett, and Federico Mussini. The Red Storm also welcome in transfers Justin Simon (Arizona) and Marvin Clark (Michigan State).
Mikey Dixon, a 6-foot-2 guard, announced his transfer from Quinnipiac. Dixon chose the Red Storm over UMass and Penn State, he’ll sit out the upcoming season and have three years of eligibility beginning in 2018.
